Winslow Homer

Without question one of America's greatest artists, Winslow Homer (1836-1910) was captured by the spell of the sea and devoted much of his life to a study of the ocean and the people whose lives were intertwined with it. Throughout his career, Homer made his way from one coast to another - from Gloucester to northern England, to Florida and the Bahamas. He built his permanent home and studio at Prout's Neck, Maine, where he created marine paintings that stand among his most magnificent works.
