About This Item

In keeping with the MFA's Venetian theme this spring and summer, a display of European and American canvases is on view in the Upper Hemicycle in "Mad on Color: Paintings of Nineteenth-Century Venice." Works by Renoir, Monet, Whistler, and others show the influence of Venice's unique combination of water and light on the painting of the Impressionists and their contemporaries. These coasters depict images from some of the well known paintings in this exhibition by artists including Edward Darley Boit, John Singer Sargent, Claude Monet and Maurice Brazil Prendergast.
