Lady of Neby Scarf

About This Item

A contemporary of governor Djehutynakht, the Lady of the House of Neby was buried in a beautifully decorated coffin. This detail shows the lintel of the false door through which her soul hoped to pass to the afterlife. Stylized lotus bunches and patterns meant to imitate textiles and curtains are reproduced and repeated in this exclusive MFA design. A family of symbolic Egyptian birds including the Ibis, Bennu, and goose is also repeated and creates additional interest overall.
